The Fort Madison Area United Way helps meet needs in the Fort Madison area by funding community service organization. Every year we raise funds through corporate gifts, direct appeals and work place donations to assist 21 different community service groups. In addition, United Way serves to unite the community in addressing unmet needs and improve the quality of life in our area. We are locally incorporated, locally governed, and 98% of funds raised are spent locally.

There are three areas of needs we try to meet: 1) People in need: Agencies and programs funded by United Way help prevent homelessness, provide, shelter to those who are homeless or transient, help with emergency needs of family, provide, food and other needs for people who are facing economic hardship. 2) Strong Family and Healthy Individuals: We want to help build strong families through educational programs, child and domestic abuse services, senior community volunteering, services for the disabled, and programs that help parents with after school care and youth sports program. We also support programs that help youth and children becoming strong and caring adults through sports, programs, girl and boys scouts summer reading programs, and health programs to help school age children with eye exams, physicals or other medical needs.
